How to Make Homemade Snack Pouches

Easy, homemade snack pouches that save you money and pack a ton of nutrition!

Snack pouches are always a sure win in our household. It’s an easy way to get a quick, nutritious meal on the go that my toddler never refuses. However, store bought snack pouches can get pricey (I personally don’t need any more $60/mo subscriptions!) when you’re packing lunches every day. I also don’t love the idea of feeding my kids packaged foods daily, no matter how nutritious and safe they may be. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and it turns out they are both SUPER easy and my toddler loves them! Win Win!

What You’ll Need:

  • Reusable Snack Pouches - These Hakka ones are silicone (no plastic), no leaks, and super easy to clean.

  • Fruit and Veggies (frozen or fresh)

  • Microgreens or Green Powder

  • Oatmeal (for added fiber)

  • Chia Seeds (for added protein)

  • Protein Power (optional)

  • Blender (I use Nutribullet for quick & easy set up, cleaning, & storage)

Mom Hacks:

Add Veggies: When buying in store, I always made sure to purchase pouches with more veggies than fruit. This is what deterred me from making them at home to begin with. I didn’t want him just eating fruit smoothies every day, but how was I going to cold press cucumbers or find the time to puree veggies? And would they even taste good? But, I found ways to sneak in veggies that didn’t require any additional steps.

  • Blend in leafy greens like spinach or microgreens. They pack a ton of nutrients without changing the flavor profile. I always have microgreens on hand with this growing kit.

  • Add a greens powder. Hiya makes one filled with greens and superfoods that tastes like chocolate. Get 50% off at this link

Make it a family affair: My son loves to cook, so I get him involved in the process. I got him a Toddler Tower so he can help out in the kitchen - this one doubles as a table too! We make a big batch together in the morning for breakfast and then I fill up the snack pouches for lunch the rest of the week. The Hakka pouches can also be frozen.

Use up your fruits: While frozen fruits are a great option, this is also a great way to use up fruits that are going bad. We are all too familiar with the pain of throwing out those expensive berries!

Get Creative: Mix and match ingredients to find combinations your toddler loves, while also using up what you already have in the kitchen! Give the smoothies fun names to get your littles ones excited.
